Hi All,

Just a bit confused on a drawing.

Drawing has a thickness of 0.070" and Part list states 0.125". Material is Teflon which in Aerosapce industry is not available in 0.125" from approved sources.

Will I be okay to use the thickness as shown in drawing or does PL always supersedes drawing?

Thank you.

You must contact whoever created both the drawing and the parts list and verify.

They are supposed to match.

There is no sense to "supersede" one mistake with another.

I have emailed the contact.

However, is there any rule that we should always follow PL instead of drawing if there are discrepancies?
My manager stated "PL always takes precedence over drawing" but i am not sure.

Thank you.

Sometimes it helps to ask the manager to quote the standard - where exactly it says so. :)

Do you have an "order of precedence" document? We always have the drawing over rule other documents in case of a discrepancy.

Thanks @CheckHater. Definitely will ask.

@dgallup - no, we do not have any document like that.

thank you.

Drawing takes precedence. I have seen numerous times where PL's descriptions do not match drawings. This is because sometimes different people input descriptions into different systems, and they don't communicate.
The PL is only a descriptive list. But, it can play havoc on the system if not correct. It needs to fixed to match the drawings/parts/assy's.
When the PL is used to order parts, the drawing most likely will be opened and possibly sent out (depending on contract) which will control the size of material.

Fahadiqbal,

In the aerospace industry, I would think that the iron rule is "Don't f**k up."

The people who prepared your drawings are confused, and you do not know who is right. Send the drawings back and tell them to straighten them out.

There is no such "universal" standard.

Any given contract may (should) define an order of precedence.

The contract should also define what to do in the event that you identify a discrepancy between documents. Usually what you should do is "ask the customer".

Your manager is wrong and you should tell him that the internet said so.

I would ask...

But if I didn't ask I would somehow special order .125 thick Teflon and machine it to .070 and charge the customer an outrageous amount of money for it

Thank you All. I would definitely ask before making a decision on purchasing the material.
