I'm working with native NX7.5. I'm trying to emboss the part name in my design and I want this to update automatically. I'm using Insert>Curve>Text, checked the "reference text" box and selected my string expression. Now I just need my string expression (titled "for_text") to get the part name or number.

I've tried all the following formulas for my string expression
Descriptive_Part_Name
DB_PART_NO
OS_PART_NAME
<DB_PART_NO>
<OS_PART_NAME>
stringValue(<DB_PART_NO>)
stringValue(<W@$SH_PART_NAME>) - I noticed my drawing is using this to call up the part name
<<W@$SH_PART_NAME>

and a bunch of others. I give up. Help.

For NX.75 use the ug_askPartAttrValue("DB_PART_NO") function mind you this will not be 100% associative as it will only updated on explicitly with the "update for. external exchange" command. the attribute system was reoworked for the NX 8.5 release, it now provides full associativity and makes it much easier to do these kind of operations.
