Hello everyone!
Does any of you have experience with the Park and Ang damage index? I am struggling to understand the real meaning of "dE - incremental absorbed energy", thought it seems to be an easy parameter. Let's say I have the force - deformation relationship of a structural element measured during an earthquake loading. The relationship consists of several loadings and unloadings. How do I measure dE? Do I sum the energy absorbed in all the cycles? Does it make sense to do so? I think it doesn't, because it makes the damage index very dependent on the loading history. Or, do I calculate dE on the backbone curve?
