Our company has been using SolidWorks for about 3 years now. We recently started outsourcing some of our jobs. The designers would copy the models offline and send us the completed assy/parts/drawings. We are currently using SW '04 SP5.0 with DBWorks '05. Can any of you give me some tips on the best way to convert these files back into our system while creating these records in DBW? Or is there some reading anybody can offer on this procedure?

Any help is greatly appriciated! Thanks!

I would suggest upgrading to SolidWorks 2006 SP 4.1 You would have a lot less trouble and you would stay current with your outsourcing group.

Firstly, as Bradley points out, you & your "outsource" should be synchronised with your SW & SP versions. Otherwise one of you will always be having to run feature recognition programs to keep "intelligent" models.

Regarding DBWorks, it is capable of sharing data across an extranet. See the flash demo of Geographically Shared Environment at This of course means that your outsource must be synchronised with you & use the same version of DBWorks also.
