OT - Reviewing Contractor Submittals

I’m reviewing contractor submittals for AC pavement and Concrete mixtures for a road rehabilitation project. We are using the "Greenbook". What the heck should I be looking for? Any help would be appreciated.

The AASHTO Green Book is a design guide. At the point of Shop Drawing review, you need to review to the Project Manual.

If Specs therein ref certain criteria within the Green Book, then compliance to the criteria ref'd, along with all other criteria in the Specs is what you are checking in the submittals.

If Specs therein do NOT ref criteria within the Green Book, then compliance to the Green Book is not required.

Is this a DOT project? If so, refer to their specifications. Even if it isn't a DOT project you can still compare your submittals with DOT specs.

My projects are typically with a DOT although a few years ago I had a project with a private company that included some roadwork. The specs referred the contractor to PennDoT.

As LHA wrote, The Green Book is a design guide - geometrics, traffic, guide rail, etc - it doesn't get into pavement design. AASHTO has books on pavement design as do most DOT's.
