I’m trying to do a feasibility study on ways to ‘rigidly’ mount a highly accurate (sub-micron/micro meter) measurement device (SPM). Essentially a fancy L bracket, though it may not be that shape when finished.
The load is fairly low. The main concerns are minimal vibration & thermal deformation.
From my very limited knowledge I’m thinking CFRP may be a good choice especially due to it’s stiffness and apparent vibration damping properties (and the fact someone here who’s really clever mentioned it).
Could anyone point me to any good online resources on this? I’ve done Google searches and looked through past threads but haven’t found as much detail as I’d like to, especially on its vibration damping properties and fabricating a structure from individual components (ribs and spars type thing using adhesive & butt joints etc).
If I decide, it’s worthy of further effort I’d probably look to get an outside party to do a more detailed analysis but want to get some idea first.
