Hello I am interested in finding out how one-way valves , work particularly those used in things like toy balloons, its not my area so would appreciate any help. The application is for use with soft flexible plastics. Would be by interested to know if there are different types , the simpler the mechanism the better. I just need a basic understanding. Many thanks in advance .Opticsman.

Main principle for all check valves are guided, in some case hinged) inline constructional elements (eg. most common ball, disc, double disc, flaps, torpedos, rubbercone) being pushed in one direction and freeing pipeline when pressure (P1) on inlet side is higher than back pressure (P2) ont the other side. When P2 is higher than P1 the opposite will occur: the total pressure on the guided element (area times differential pressure) will push the element back and close the pipeline.

I dont know exactly for toy balloons, could be partly flexible flap. Similar size, mass produced products with check valves: inflatable life vests (?), inflatable boat fenders, sea buyos, small motorcraft, bicycle and wheelbarrow wheels, foot-, basket and handballs etc.
