Is it possible to have a uni directional support in STAAD. I would like to input a support which will take a positive reaction, but when the reaction becomes negative the support is free to translate, ie lift of the ground.

Yes this is possible if you define the support as a spring. You can then define it as tension or compression only. There are other modeling requirements so use the online help manual.... Section 5.23.4.
