OE Shock Absorber Life "bathtub"

Hi,
I'm probably pushing the boundaries a bit here, but....
Has anyone on the forum studied typical shock absorber life ( warranty returns )to the extent of understanding the point ( mileage ) at which infant failure decays to the steady failure rate ? I'm particularly interested in the mileage occurance of contamination related noise issues, and whether this is an "infant" failure mode.
