If you open a Part Family master and add a new member to the excel sheet, then create the member, it automatically makes this new member a "Read Only" part file. Even if you do a save as to it, the new file is still a read only. It does this whether it is in Native or Team Center.

Is it some kind of attribute that makes this file a read only or recognized as a family member part?

I created a new member for a family part and learned afterwards that my boss wants it separate from the family. This is in Team Center. I can go into the family master and remove the new part from the family members list and remove it from the excel sheet. But the part is still recognized as a family member part file, so I cant make a change and save it. I believe we wont be able to make revisions later and rev it up and save it either.

Is there any way of fixing this or am I stuck deleting it and recreating it with a new part number?

Try exporting the file from NX to your hard drive, remove the member from the FT and save the master. Remove the files from your workspace, then open the file from your hard drive, make the changes and do a check-in.
