Hello All.

Testing NX9 at the moment. And I noticed something when trying to use arrangement specific views on drawing.

Let's say I have a drawing which I created a while ago without using any arrangements. Also the assembly for which the drawing was created didn't have any arrangements.
All views on the drawing have been places as base view.

Now later on I decide I would like to add some arrangements to my assembly and add views to that drawing showing a specific arrangement.
So far so good...

Now I change my arrangement in the assembly to show a different state.
On my drawing the views I have placed BEFORE I created the arrangements are also changing to show the arrangement selected.

So I figured I'd edit the existing views and change the arrangement for thos back to the default....
To my surprise this isn't possible Once a view has been placed, you cannot change the arrangement which it is using... You cannot even see what arrangement, it is using...

Anyone else encountered this yet?

I think you will find that NX has always worked in this manner.

The original base views, created when the Drawing was first made, is linked to the 'Default' Arrangement, NOT actually because it's an Arrangement but simply because the Assembly has to be in one state or another and we call that state the 'Default Arrangement'. It's often been commented on internally that perhaps we should have created Arrangements as being 'exceptions' to the base Assembly. That is, that there was no concept of a 'Default Arrangement' but rather have the Assembly modeled one way and then ALL Arrangements would be seen as ADDITIONAL ways that the Assembly could be viewed and used. However, the base Assembly would NOT be seen as being an Arrangement itself. Granted, we would have had to have provided an option to set the base Assembly to be that same as one of the Arrangements, but in so doing that Arrangement would not appear on the list but a new one would be created capturing what the old base configuration was. But the idea that an Assembly would always be seen as being ONE of the Arrangements would not be an option. The opinion of those who have expressed this viewpoint was that we could have probably provided better and easier to understand downstream behaviors if we had gone that route, but of course that's a moot point now since making that sort of change at this stage of the game would be very difficult to do.

This is , according to me, no difference compared to earlier versions. We run NX7.5 and see the same.
In my perspective Arrangements are, let's say, "not that simple to understand fully"...

The step,
"Now I change my arrangement in the assembly to show a different state.
On my drawing the views I have placed BEFORE I created the arrangements are also changing to show the arrangement selected."

Is the critical one, it will change everything in all views apart from the ones that show a dedicated arrangement.
But, you can change back.

Tomas
