Hi all.
First of all, I would like to apologize for my English: I know it's full of errors, and the reason is that I'm not a native English speaker, so I will try to do my best to give you the chance to understand what I'm writing.

I'm doing a work for my university, and I need to make a video of a gearbox while it is turning. But first of all, I do need to produce some raytraced renders of the whole composition.
Can someone tell my why the "Raytrace" button is grey, and it is not cliccable? I'm really going crazy! This is a big problem, since if I try to export a MPEG 2 video of the motion simulation, the video will have just the background and nothing else in it.

Please help!

Regards to all from Italy,
Ciccio

Probably because you don't have a 'Studio Render' licence.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

I don't think that is the reason, since I can easily render every one of the other parts I've ever made.
Everyone but this :(

Make sure the assembly is actually loaded. Check the Assembly Naviator to see if the Components are loaded or not.

The grey button in the two pictures is the new NX9 "dynamic" raytracing window,
i doubt strongly that this new and separate process would have anything to do with your ability to render a mpeg Mechanism.

Try instead press the "Advanced Studio" seen in the attached image,
Then click the "High Quality Image" and check that you have at least "Improved" set as the method.
- the "Flat", "Goraud", "Phong" will not include things as materials, textures, reflections, shadows etc.

Then press the "Start Shade" to do a software rendering.
To my knowledge this is the setup used when exporting mpeg's from mechanisms.

If you set the method to say "Ray traced" and still don't get the materials, textures, shadows, backgrounds etc etc, you don't have the Studio Render License.
Note that "realtime rendering" and "software rendering" are separate licenses.

Tomas
