Hello all,

I was wondering how the subtract function works when cutting a ring around a sphere? The trick is, is that the ring needs to be altered 40 degrees in one direction and 20 degrees in another... I have attached a pic of the resulting line. I just don't know how they did it by using the subtract option....

I assume the ring of which you speak is the groove around the entire sphere and not the piercing on the leftmost side?

If you know the axis about which the groove is to be revolved, then create the groove profile on a plane parallel to the axis of revolution and revolve the profile about that axis. Pretty simple, really.

Here's an example in NX8:

I messed up on the axis selection when moving the faces, but that can be edited.
