NX 7.5 ASSEMBLIES

For some reason when I open assemblies in NX it will not let me save constraints to it. I open an assembly delete an old constraint and add a new one an then File save workpart only. Then I close and reopen the part and the new constraint is gone, and the onld one is deleted still. I tried part cleanup and checkmate. I also created a new assembly from scratch and it won't let me save the constraints. The new assembly has zero constraints when I close and reopen it. The assemblies do not show up on the assembly navigator or the dependencies box when I select a part with the constraints in the assembly. The position circle updates when I add a constraint but nothing else does or shows a constraint has been added. I have no idea whats wrong and none of my collegues in the office have seen this before.

Make sure that you're actually ADDING Constraints to your model. If you use the 'Move Component' function with the 'By Constraints' method, you are NOT actually creating any real constraints, you are merely using them to 'move' a component to some unconstrained location.

Also, assuming that you are using the "assembly constraints" command and not the "move compoennt", in the "settings" section of the assembly constraints dialog, make sure the "associative" option is turned on. If it is off, the constraint won't be saved and you will essentially be moving the component by constraints as described by John.
