What exactly are null lines? I have a large building modeled in ETABS Nonlinear with many gridlines and I have been recommended to convert some gridlines to null lines to decrease computational time and increase efficiency. What is the criteria for utilizing null lines and how are they strategicallly used?

I'll use null lines to apply line loads to structures.

If you have slabs meshed at visible gridlines, but not at lines, you'll decrease the run time when you switch over because the mesh will be coarser. Other than that I'm not totally sure why it would speed up calculation.

MarkHirschi thank you for the reply.

Can you clarify what you mean by "If you have slabs meshed at visible gridlines, but not at lines". In my model I have meshed slabs to all primary grid lines
