From July 1, design practitioners will require insurance coverage to practice in NSW. It sounds like this is individual coverage, has anyone sought out where to get individual PI insurance from?

I hadn't heard about this, which is disturbing. A search on the Engineers Australia forum didn't find any discussion of the topic either.

From a quick look at the NSW gov site it certainly looks like individuals are supposed to have their own PI insurance, which seems quite extraordinary to me for those who are employed by insured companies.

I have insurance through my own company ( which is just me), and it costs a fortune, but as it is in the companies name I don't even know if I would be covered by that. I don't do building work, so I hope this won't affect me. We shall see.

There's some gobbledigook at the end of the link below that says a corporate policy might do, but also some talk about making your own assessment about what is reasonable. That's 'reasonable' in the legal sense, ie it's actually the judge's opinion that matters despite the law saying it's your opinion.

Sounds like a shitshow brewing given the problems some companies have getting affordable insurance. I've heard that some large companies have excesses approaching the amount insured or such restrictive policies that they're actually just buying the certificate of currency.
