I'm having the same pain in the a**!! Once in a while I get the window of NIS saying that xtop.exe is trying to connect to a DNS server. I already configured the firewall to alwaysallow all connectionsfor xtop through all ports but it seems it doesn't have any effect. This happens when I try to retreive or save some files and when I open ProE. To continue working I have to disable NIS.

Any suggestion?? Thanks!!!!

You could try (free) ZoneAlarm. It works for me at home, haven't tested ProE behaviour though. Professional environment is McAfee, which seems to run OK. I had a Norton Utilities, which I also removed from my computer, giving more trouble than benefits. My feeling is that Norton isn't what it used to be back in DOS-days no longer.

thanks for your advice, but I already installed (and paid!) NIS which runs ok except for that issue....I hope I can fix it.

Try contact Nortons web help center, They can help you set the proper settings for your system. We have had simaler problems with Nortons and Pro-e. (i have been fighting with IT for months about them tring to run a viral scan in the back ground while Pro-e is running, It crashes Pro-E on a regular basis)

Best of Luck John

I always seemed to have that problem as well. What seemed to me what caused it was when Norton would update itself. After telling it to allow xtop.exe a couple of times, I would shut down and restart the computer and it seemed like the problem would go away. I never found a solution. I also got tired of Norton telling me it was going to expire, so I dumped it and went to ZoneAlarm and have had no problems. I'm not trying to advertize for any company, but Norton was always a pain with Pro-E.
