Hi,
I had model a vertical runner profile S350SD...which exceed the von mises stress limit 350MPA using elastic analysis/Linear material. Which then i shifted later to nonlinear material for plastic analysis ..Shows now von mises stresses equal to yield stress (does it means safe?). My question is when i can say the design is safe...which parameter shall i compare to satisfy the results..So that the checker can approve it.Is it strain?

If a plastic hinge developed at the location that has yielded, would your structure be ok ?

What software ?

If your material curve is elastic-perfectly plastic then strain won't mean anything.

It sounds to me as though your structure has failed.

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

Well once you leave the elastic range you need to look at the strain as control parameter
It depends on codes but usually 5% strain is allowed
