I have a assembly that doesn't allow me to shade the assembly. So it displays in wireframe mode only, is anyone having the same problem in sw2005 ?

Tools\Large assembly mode - there is an option that might be on. It doesn't have to be in the Tools\Options - Go to the Pull downs and find Large assembly mode icon. Toggle it off and see if that fixes the issue.

How large is the file?

As arcticcatmatt suggests, when the problem assy is open, check whether the large assy mode has been activated.
Go to Tools & select or toggle Large assy mode on & off to see if that corrects the problem.

Also go to Tools & select Assembly statistics & post the results.
