I'm trying to find the NFPA requirements for the type and number of saftey gas valves for a heater treater. Does anyone know what NFPA standard they use?
You can contact the NFPA or the following for information.
I had one of the IHEA booklets that dealt with nearly all aspects of industrial furnaces but I have forgotten which one it was, a senior moment. Another point is the local fire marshal and local codes. If this is a new installation make sure the insurance carrier is in the loop. Our carrier had some very specific requirements for fired furnaces inside the production area.
The attached link gives all the available NFPA standards. NFPA 54 is the appropriate standard for natural gas. I'm not sure that NFPA specifies particular valves for heat treating equipment. You might find some coverage under equipment shutoff valves.
