Hi,
I am asking for advise on connection between new steel beam to existing brick wall.
The builder wants to remain the existing the wall but create openings with steel beam on top. The light weight roof will be be demolished and replaced with 180mm thick RC slab. I am going to connect the slab to the btm flange of steel beam instead of sitting on top of it due to the parapet brick wall above. But I am wondering what connection can I use for steel beam to brick?
The elevation & section are shown as below.

How thick is the brick wall? How the slab is to be supported on sides of the opening? Did you check code bearing requirement for this situation?

In light of the fact that all you’ve shown so far in the way of real structural conditions and detail is red brick and conc. and blue steel, it might be a good idea if you applied a little gray matter too, in describing your problem and the real details of the wall and slab. That is, if you want anyone to discuss it in a meaningful way with you.

Gravity?

Needs a proper dimensioned drawing or sketch.

Why do you think it needs fixing to the brickwork.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Forget about the steel beam. It is the wrong material. Instead:

[li]Needle the parapet at midpoint of opening.[/li]
[li]Remove enough bricks to accommodate a concrete beam.[/li]
[li]Drill horizontal holes each end of beam and epoxy steel dowels in brick.[/li]
[li]Pour slab and upturned beam and wait for it to cure. [/li]
[li]Place non-shrink grout between beam and parapet.[/li]
[li]Attach vertical steel members to inside face of parapet with anchors into concrete slab (to resist wind moment).[/li]
[li]Remove bricks under the slab to create the 2m opening.[/li]
