Dear All,

Can anybody suggest me how to calculate neutral axis and negative skin friction on pile from neutral axis concept ?

In the Bowles approach (section 18.8 , 5th edition), for fill on cohesive soil, what should be the total length of the pile (L) for calculation of depth of neutral axis (L1). Suppose total length of the pile is 40 m and soft soil (cu <50kpa) is only upto 15 m and below that stiff soil (cu >50kpa) then what pile length should be considered for calculation of depth of neutral axis ?

If anybody has any good approach , please send some example /link / literature etc.

Thanks
