Need to prevent internal fittings from falling into a tank.

Hi,

I'm working on a carboy container assembly at the mo. I've got a coupling body on top of the container. There's a male quick disconnect coupling body threaded into a hole on the container. A female quick disconnect attaches to it when it needs to be refilled. Inside the container is a hex reducing bushing and an elbow, the hex busing being attached to the male coupling body and the elbow to the hex bushing. Their purpose is to project the liquid onto the side of the container to prevent foaming.

As part of a foolprofing design the quick disconnect coupling body will need to be replaced by another quick disconnect coupling body. The only problem is that when this is done the internal fittings will fall down to the bottom of the container. Is there any way of preventing this?

All I can think of is to use a hex reducing bushing with internal and external threads which will screw into the hole in the container. Then fit the male coupling body into this. This will prevent the internal couplings from falling to the bottom of the container. Are there alternative solutions?

God bless,

Phil.

The elbow will not be very effective wrt foaming anyway.

Why not extend a straight fill tube almost to the tank bottom?

Hi Mike,

By a straight fill tube do you just mean a lenght of tubing. I'm actually after finding out that the parts are welded internally. It's after I spent about 6 hours trying to find various solutions that I was informed. Does anyone know of any good sites that explains the function of each type of fitting?
