Need Help on designing a steel slag filter that run everyday for 6 weeks

Hey guys, im doing a batch experiment in lab as my final year project....im using a box as the filter....ill put the steel slag in the filter(b0x)...and ill will connect a Peristaltic Pump from the water container to the filter and will set a certain velocity that represent the river velocity that im researching...im doing a research on removing heavy metal from a river.....my problem is on the calculation...i need to run it for about 6 weeks non stop...so i need to calculate on how much litre of water that i need to use for a day...and whats the diameter of the tube from the container to the peristaltic pump and to the filter that i need to use.....because the river is quite far...and it will cos a lot of money to go there to often....any ideas?...im still blurred on what to do first...
