Hi, i just wanted a quick reply on my question;

How is a standard workshop lathe lubricated (gear box & tool post )?

Searched throughtout the internet and cannot find a solid answer.

Gear box with oil, why is tool post lubricated? Of course if you re-word the question to something meaningful you will probably receive a more understandable answer.
Hope that suited your request for a quick reply?

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

Yes can you maybe explain in a bit more detail of how it travels around the lathe from the gearbox?

Standard workshop lathes have a sealed gearbox with an oil fill, and all the movements (the "ways" that the tool rest slides on in both directions, the threading/feed lead screw etc.) are lubricated manually.

Of course you can always Google / Bing "lathe lubrication system" where you will find all your questions plus more answered.

South Bend's "How to Run a Lathe" is an excellent resource for older traditional lathes. Download it free here:
Many older lathes did not have any reservoirs for lubrication, it was all manual. SAE 20wt is a good oil for most parts, including the ways, carriage, and crossfeed screws. It would help if you can identify the make/model/etc of your lathe.
