I would like to recieve a recommendation on a fairly economical gas modeling software package. I have been asked to model the gas system for a city with 10-15,000 customers with the bulk of that being commercial load.
"Gas modeling". Could you be more obscure? We model gas compositions and reactions. We model gas flow in a reservoir. We model gas flow in a wellbore. We model gas flow in pipes. We model gas flow to the atmosphere. We model gas flow within the atmosphere. We model gas in combustion reactions. We model gas in mixing reactions. We model gas in phase separation. We model gas in pneumatic controls. We model gas a lot of ways. Pick one.
You did hint that you are somehow involved with supplying "customers" so I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you are interested in gas distribution flow modeling. This absolutely is an area where you can get cheep or you can get effective, but not both. Most inexpensive models limit the off system deliveries to some number around a dozen. To get 15,000 off-system deliveries you are going to need a package that is very robust (spelled expensive).
I don't mean to bust your chops, but sloppy use of language is the number one reason that Engineers don't get what they intended. This is as true when dealing with clients and vendors as when asking for free advice on a mostly anonymous forum. If you ask a vague and messy question here, most of the community will simply ignore your post, a subset will snipe at you, and a tiny subset will try to puzzle out what the heck you are talking about. Your chances of someone in that last group knowing the answer is something like 100/1 million. Asking competent questions increases those odds.
