I am working with an application where natural gas is regulated from approximately 3500 psi down to 3000 psi in an automotive application. Our flow varies from 0 to 70 kg/hr. We have applications that use both CNG as well as LNG. We are experiencing some wear on both the metal poppet and the polyimide seat in a regulator that we are currently using.
I have been told that natural gas is aggressive from a 'scouring' point of view, but was not told of the cause of this scouring (particulates in the gas, ice crystal formation, other?).
Has anyone had experience with high pressure natural gas in a system were rapid wear of vavles or regulators was documented?
Does anyone have any information or links to resources re: natural gas erosion or similar topics?
Any info is appreciated.
