Name of specific piece of hardware

I am looking for the name of a specific piece of hardware that I need. What i need is a device that will fully compress when hit from the positive x direction, and then pop back up to hold in place in the negative x direction. What is happening, is an arm is sliding in under a product and needs to lock the product in place and then pull the product back with it. I have seent hese devices before, they are commonly simple spring loaded things, though i cannot find anything remotely similar from any vendor. Any help would be appreciated.

That is exactly the unit I was looking for. Now, for further application, and to pick your brain a little more... How about the same type of device, though that does not use a spring. This item would be in a high temperature enviroment and any spring would lose its bounce. What I've seen before is a rod on a pivoting axel. One end of the rod is a bit longer, lowering the center of gravity so the rod would therefore stand straight up due to gravity.

I don't think I've seen a springless one myself. You may have to build your own. That's going to be a tough one. It's not going to act very fast, and I'd fear for its reliability unless your weight is pretty large. If your environment is hot enough to kill a spring you're going to have to worry about oxidation, lubrication, etc.

The front stops on a sheet metal power shear work in the manner you describe.
They have a pivot with an unbalanced arm. When the sheet slides across it, the stop retracts. As soon as the sheet clears, the stop pops up and the sheet can be pulled back to gauge against the stop.
Manufacturers are Cincinnati, Roper Whitney, Accushear, to name a few.

you could still use one that has a spring. Just get a spring that is resistant to high temperatures. Springs made from Inconel can handle high temperatures with ease and should not lose their properties. They actually work their best in a high temperature environment.

Here is a stop, very similiar to the type bershire mentioned that I used on my Radial Arm Saw. I never noticed what happens when you get it out of position. I don't have the saw any more so I can check.
