A previous thread regarding "outsourcing jobs" was interesting to read with many different views. However, most considered outsourcing (offshoring) jobs to Asia.

I would like to see what people here think about NAFTA. I do not have in depth knowledge regarding this agreement, just hearsay from clients and competitors.

It would interesting to see if some members have been directly effected by this agreement and what the result will be on the job market (both blue and white collar)

Then there's CAFTA, coming soon to a continent near you.

I am in building structural design. My job was affected by NAFTA, many years ago. I was working for a "small" consulting company.
The government generally listens to the big corporations, because they are the biggest political campaign contributors.
Since I was working in New Mexico for a small company, the designs of the manufacturing buildings that would have been built in Arizona/New Mexico were instead done by larger engineering corporations, and the buildings were located in Mexico instead of the USA. I imagine that all the employees of those companies are out of work now, and the widgets are being made in China.
Please don't suggest that I write my elected representatives. Even though I keep it polite, I have never gotten a response.

SacreBleu,
Thank you for the input. My experience is all second hand, but I have been told of many plants that we designed to be here in the States then all of a sudden right before ground breaking, sorry we are going to Mexico.

I was hoping to get more of a response for members, but I guess I didn't put up a good window for attraction.
