Dear Enginers ,

I have the Mill Test Report for 316L grade forged Bar with only NACE MR 0175 compliance , Can I use this Bar in our production when the project specification demands for NACE MR 0103 complaince material ?

I assume , NACE MR 0175 is superior to NACE MR 0103 , so it can be used or is it really necessary to have NACE MR 0103 compliance in the mill report when NACE MR 0175 is already there ?

Regards,
Shiva Prasad

If the material is based on ASTM specification, there is no major requirement for NACE MR 0103, except for hardness while 0175 would have some more stringent requirements for each material that we should not ignore with environmental limit. I would recommend you to check the hardness requirement of NACE MR 0103.

Lee SiHyoung,

So which level of service severity did you specify for MR 0175?
There is no such thing as global conformance, the purchaser must specify which level of service he is after.

MR0175 is not a certification document, i.e. it isn't possible to certify compliance. It is a question of the purchaser having knowledge of the exposure environment, reviewing the inspection data, and determining compliance. So, having NACE MR0175 on the inspection document is worthless anyway. MR0103 is a little more straightforward to get on the inspection document, if it had been requested. Why not simply get a copy of MR0103, look at the requirements, review the inspection data and determine compliance for yourself?
