To me N-Sided surface always seems to be a last resort (i would prefer to have a smooth/uniform isoparametric pattern of the patches created and it is difficult to be controlled using N-sided).

The 'N-Sided Surface' is no longer considered to be 'preferred' because it has been, for all intents and purposes, replaced by the new (introduced in NX 9.0) 'Fill Surface' function.
