Hello!

I'm new to Solidworks so sorry if I asked a silly question.

I'm trying to join five hinged flaps to one part in an assembly. The first one works fine, but when I try to attach the second, the original mate is forgotten about.

How do I get around this?

Thanks in advance.

Emily

You will need to ZIP and post the parts with the assy. The Pack & Go tool is ideal for that.

Hiya,

Zip attached.

It will eventually be a light, there's lots of stuff yet to be added in.

I'm going to be putting in a sort of ball and socket joint at the top of the light head so that will be another mate too.

I'm using the latest SW student version.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Emily

The first Hinge mate was not forgotten, but it was suppressed.

The advanced mates can be flaky, i.e., higher incidence of problems, so you actually want to use them sparingly. If you have five hinges all on one axis then I suggest you only use one hinge mate and just mate the other hinges to it with parallel or coincident mates.

In this case the hinges are not on the same axis. I agree that you should fix, or further define at least, the hood piece first. It might be easier to only bring in one instance of the flap piece, give it coincident mates at its edge faces to hinge pocket, and a coincident axis mate to the hole of the hinge. Then, you can use 'copy with mates' and bring in the rest of the flaps, defining the replacing mate entities as you do.
