Multiple draft view 'windows' from a single draft viewà

(did that thread title make sense?)

Anyway, I've a requirement, that I used to be able to do in MDT with out a problem. What I am aiming for is to be able to draw all the views and sections in one draft view (so I can use relationships to constrain them), but then on the actual page be able to have multiple 'windows' to that draft view so each window shows a different part… and therefore scale etc. At the moment I am having to create new draft view for each section of the drawing I produce… So if that is any clearer, does anyone know a solution?

I can't tell from your post if you are creating a 2D layout or if you are talking about views being generated from a 3D model.

Assuming you are drawing in 2D. You need to draw on the 2D Model Sheet. Expose it under View-2D Model Sheet. Draw on it in 1:1 scale then on your Main sheet use the button 2D model View to create various draft views of your 2D layout.

Now if you want to take it one step further then look at File-Drawing Area Setup while on the 2D Model View sheet. I'll let you read the Help menu on this topic.

Unless you're in 2D I'm struggling to see what you're trying to achieve. What relationships are you trying to achieve to constrain them? It may be that you can create these relationships between different views.

A new draft view for each view/section is how I've always done it. For the section command to work I think it would have to be done like this but I may know different.

When you say "so each window shows a different part" are you doing a detail assembly or something?

Ksudavid has hit the nail on the head (by the looks of it, though I'll have to have a go in a bit). Where I work we use the draft view to draw in, I shall go across to the 2D model view. (sorry forgot to say that I/we work in 2D only (sigh))

The contraints I was talking about relate to plan/side/front etc. When the drawings get checked we might need to tweak some of the dimensions, this way, drawn correctly the other views will adjust accordingly. So for me, once the plan and the side have been drawn I then have the side view at 1:1 the plan becomes 1:2 (please don't shoot me down here, it's the way the company works and with our product it works well) The existing method it to draw these in two different Draft Views, which means that if a dimension changes, both views have to be entered and the values changed...

Hi M,
Create your 2D model view outside of the drawing border, and do all your 2D draft in it at scale 1:1.
Then create detail views from it and place them inside your drawing border. The detail views can be at any scale you like, so you can place a detail of your side view at 1:1, and a detail of your plan view at 1:2, and they can be aligned by RMB > Create Alignment.
You would then only need to update the geometry in your 2D model view, and you can turn off the display of detail view border, change the caption etc.
I think this is a fairly close comparison of what you would do in AutoCad.
There was a time when the detail view command only worked from views created from models, but recent versions allow you to create them from pure 2D.
