Ok guys, this is more of a "why in the world" post. Been stumbling around trying to create a swept protrusion using multiple datum curves. Problem is, I used some "thru points" curves and pro e tells me that is not a valid trajectory. Even looked it up in the good old trusty help file, says right there...pro engineer will not sweep along a thru points curve (although i've done it). So, I tried using swept blend option...and it works....everytime.

Anyone shed any light on this??

Depending on the feature creation type, proe needs to determine the trajectory path and the x-direction vector used for the second plane (much like the second skecthing reference plane).

From my experience, sweep protrusions work fine using curves thru points, if the datum curve is 2D (spline), but it's not friendly for 3D curves. The funny case is for straight curves between two points when.....it doesn’t work using the option “Select traj” (if you already created the curve), but it works fine using the option “Sketch traj”, and you create the same straight trajectory between two points.
I don’t use a lot these options so it didn’t really bother me, because there is always a plan “B” :-)

There are several guidelines I use to create this feature:

1. Creation of "Curve thru points":
- Select start point in consistent direction.
- e.g. if you want to sweep from left to right, then the very left need to be the starting point. Same goes for the tan curve.

2. Tangency of starting point for traj and tan traj must be the same.

Hope it helps.

Kenney
