I wish to make a fixture to hold several parts. This fixture would have cavities the shape the parts just like a multiple cavity mold. I have done this using part copy and boolean subtraction. Can this be done with assemblies or what would be the best method?

Thanks

Yes, you can.

Put your basic frame of the fixture in the assembly and locate the parts you wish to hold located in the correct relative area. Then, edit the parts in context of the assembly and use "inter-part copy" to copy the faces (or body) of the parts you wish to hold. Then use a boolean subtract.

That, to me, is the best workflow because the piece part will be accurately defined with the proper cavity shape. You could also create assembly sketches and try to use assembly features, but those would not be as robust.
