Is it a requirement for a weld repair on piping to have the supplier submit an MTR for a pipe fitting that is stamped with the material and grade?

Hope you get an answer from someone who knows, but for my curiosity, what's MTR stand for?

Google says it's Memphis Teacher Residency and Wiki says it's Mass Transit Railway.

Good on ya,

Goober Dave

MTR's are required by most end users especially when repairs are involved and it is a good practice.

MTR = Material Test Report

Who is "supplier" ?

If you are repairing existing equipment, and supplier = owner, supplying it to the welder before welder will start work... I would say no.

Material is identified by stamp, so you know what weld procedures are appropriate.

Generally, no from an NBIC or ASME Piping Code standpoint. Owners differ; some require the MTR, some do not.

If there is no MTR (Material Test Report) how do you know the required testing has been done ?
Having a stamp with the material and grade means absolutely nothing if the heat number is not on it and if the heat number does not correspond with a code compliant MTR.

Kiwi
