i'm looking to implement a new way to check tapped holes in our automotive parts produced off the machining lines. i have a good idea about how to go about this, but am not sure on what size motor to use. this motor will be powering 8 spindles that need to all spin at the same speed throughout a tapped hole. Two different speeds will need to be used on each spindle: one for initial thread(to prevent cross-threading) and the other to travel the rest of the way through the hole. I've calculated my approximate speeds to be 30 and 125 rpm. A frequency drive and PLC will control the speeds and timing. Is there a three phase motor that will work for this application?

are you talking about multiple thread gauges for thread checking or just to verify the hole is threaded?

The probe will work like a bolt, rotating through the hole. it will check to see if the threading is there, is undersized or not to specific depth, and if there is a damaged thread.

An option, in the event that you may want to reconsider how you're approaching this problem. I keep seeing an advertisement in some trade rag for a "non-contact thread probe". The picture shows something like a prox switch stuck down a tapped hole, supposedly can count & verify threads. Sorry, I don't have the name. No idea how it works. No idea IF it works. But if it does work, it may be a simpler solution.

I appreciate the responses. I have heard of eddy current before but did not realize that it could detect under or oversized tapped holes. Thanks for the help.
