MOTOR SELECTION

I am a bioengineer and having trouble with electric motor selection (not my area of expertise).

This is the problem and some specs:

I need to select a motor.

This motor will be connected to a drive shaft via a drive belt.

I know the torqure required to move the drive shaft is 200Nm.

This is a stop-and-go system. (i.e. will be accelerating and decelerating)

How do i do this??

Well, you have left out a truck load of info - so much that I give you low marks for initial success on your project. Not because you lack initiative but because there are lots, and lots, of gotchas in these type systems and you will likely miss more than one. Possibly a show stopper. And this stuff is not cheap these days!

I suggest you listen here and then get someone with some experience to help you.

200Nm/1.3558 = 147 ftlbs

Info needed:
1) Like how much acceleration?
2) And what is the inertial load on the shaft.
3) Are there any positional requirements?
4) Maximum speed?

Stop and go.. All this stop-an-go has to be handled by a the motor. This could mean some special aspects.

5) How often are you, "stopping and going"?
