Monitoring quality of triethylene glycol

Friends,
I am interested in knowing, the degradation of TEG over a period of time. How do we monitor the quality of TEG? what are the laboratory analysis that need to be conducted on regular basis to ensure that the TEG quality has not deteriorated. presently we only check the pH of TEG, and moisture in lean and rich TEG.I have heard of oxidation stability, and foam tests, but need to know all such tests that need to be performed, and what would be the inferences of the same? We are developing our laboratory and as such we need to know about such tests for equipment procurement. thanks to all

A standard TEG analysis usually consists of a GC scan to measure EG, DEG, TEG, TTEG , methanol, and amine contents (wt%). Hydrocarbon content (ppm), Total Suspended Solids (ppm), Chlorides as NaCl (ppm), pH, Reserve Alkalinity (mL of 0.1N HCl per 10 mL of sample), Foaming tendancy, and appearance. Water contents too of course.

We sometimes do more indepth analysis in rare cases to look for acids (glycolic, acetic, lactic, etc.)

Not only do you have to do an analysis of TEG but an analysis of the NG going to the dehydration tower is important as well.
NG quality will indicate the amount of sulphur, salt content, plus other contaminants that will degrade TEG and the tower internal packings.
For TEG, the following tests are administered:
pH
Salt content
Hydrocarbons content
Solids content
Iron content
Foaming test
TEG composition
Specific gravity
Condensate colour if any

The most expensive equipment is the GC for the composition analysis.
