There are several ways to achive better performance and also it depends on what you are modeling; the complexity of the part or assembly, etc. Anyway, here are some switches and settings, that may be used in NX for easier or faster work (from NX help/what's new documentation):

[li]Customer Defaults:Gateway:User Interface:General:Welcome Page Duration... Set this to 1 and during next start of the NX, click on Yes to remove the Welcom screen. The NX will now start faster. But actually, I didn't see the big deifference in opening speed.[/li]
[li]Customer Defaults:Gateway:User Interface:General:Show All Out-of-Focus Handle Input Fields... When you are creating for example a Variational Blend, you will have several points along the edge. If this option is ON, you will see all the input fields for every point. To me, it is better to have this option OFF. It is easier to work then.[/li]
[li]File:Save Options:Save Data for Fast Rollback and Edit... With this option on, you do faster edits and updates on a model. But beware, the file size will increase. On a simple test model, it was increased from 240kb to 296kb.[/li]
[li]Preferences:Visualization:Color
art Settings group:De-emphasis option... I have Blend Percentage set on 100%. When I make a part work in the assembly, the rest of the assembly is in one color.[/li]
[li]Sketch since NX7.5 has Continuous Auto Dimensioning. I have this Turned Off.[/li]
[li]Replace with Independent Sketch...If I don't need the wave link to some master sketch, I use this option to remove a link.[/li]
[li]Menu: Preferences:Modeling:Update tab (or Customer Defaults:Modeling:General:Update)...I have turned off all the option for Edit During Update Dialog Appears on. I don't want any information during updates. I then check the Part Navigator for errors. Maybe this is not the best way, but it works for me. Also, I have turned on Make Current Feature on Error. Again, I check for the failed feature in the Part Navigator myself.[/li]
[li]Tools:Update:Interpart Update:Delay Assembly Constraints...I can do several changes to the assembly and update constraints only once.[/li]
[li]Tools:Update:Delay Update During Edit of Sketch and Tools:Update:Update Model from Sketch...With those options, the model is not updated automatically after every sketch change. This is practical with complex models.[/li]

And here are some things, that I found during my work:

[li]I customize Radial Menus (left, middle and right mouse button) for every application I use and I save as my new Role.[/li]
[li]For faster selection, I use Lasso option, I create Sketch and Feature groups.[/li]
[li]In sketching, do not create to complicated sketches. It is better to make two or three simple sketches (if possible), than one complicated.[/li]
[li]Keep the degree of the spline as low as possible. And use as little points as possible. If you will set the degree to high and use to many points, the update and edit of such spline will take to long.[/li]
[li]In assembly, I use Lightweights, Load Partial Geometry and groups.[/li]
[li]Wave links and all the other associative copies are nice. But I don't use them, just because they are there. If I don't need the asociativity, I will turn it off. All the links will slow me down. The same goes for expressions and formulas and interpart expression.[/li]
[li]I also use Constraints Navigator to better organize my assembly constraints.[/li]
[li]I also refile the old parts in a new version. Jut saving them in a new version is sometimes not enough. For example, the NX8.5 drafting has the option Smart Lightweight. It will work only, if the old parts are refiled.[/li]

For complex modeling and large assemblies, try also:

[li]Visualization Preferences: turn off Full Scene Antialiasing and Edge Emphasis in General Display Settings/Session Settings.[/li]
[li]Visualization Performance Preferences: set the Model Size to Custom and then modify Moving Frames. Set Frames/Second to faster and Detail to Low. Also use Hide Small Objects. Under Settings, I have both options on. Under General Tab, disable anything you don't need. Which is pretty much everything.[/li]
