Modeling constructed wetlands with micropools

Hi folks,

This is my first post to this forum.

Has anyone modeled a constructed wetland with separate forebay and afterbay pools connected by a wetland channel. I have a project that I need to model and I'm trying to model it the most efficient way. It seems as though I have to model it with three ponds since they are connected in series and are all going to be tailwater controlled ( the forebay has to maintain a 4' depth before it flows through a shallow wetland channel into the afterbay with an outlet 2' above the afterbay bottom.

I'm open for any suggestions.

You may be able to use two ponds:

Pond #1 = Forebay storage with weir outlet

Pond #2 = Channel + afterbay storage (assumed to be one level pool) with outlet 2' from bottom.

You may also want to include exfiltration for one or both ponds. I suggest you try a simple example to see how it works out. Unless the storage volume is significant in relation to the overall inflow hydrograph, the pond(s) probably won't have much effect on the inflow hydrograph. This raises the basic question, what are you trying to determine with your HydroCAD model? Also see previous thread thread789-34955
