I am supporting a cylindrical vessel with a saddle. The perimeter of the bend plate of the saddle is welded to the vessel with intermitent welds.

To properly size the saddle (angle and width, etc) I need to chek the local stresse at the interface with the vessel but I am not sure how to model the bend plate next to the vessel. For the FEA analysis I am using STAAD.

Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated

Thank you

Saddle design is covered in pressure vessel standards. Have you tried using those methods rather than using FEA?

I am not aware of that. Any link will be helpfull.

Thanks
