Of course the true performance of a double acting hammer is very sensitive to the air flow, air pressure supplied, and mechanical condition of the hammer. This is because a double acting hammer gets significant energy from the downward acceleration provided by the compressed air. For example, in the case of the MKT 9B3, 2267 ft. pounds comes from gravity (17 inches x 1600 pounds). The remaining 6483 ft. lb. is from compressed air action.
