Hello,
I'm working on an application where I would like to mix two streams of water at different temperatures, to make one stream of water at a uniform temperature.

I don't know the exact flow rates yet but the application is for cooling a scientific instrument and the pipework will be ~1/2" or so to give an indication. The outlet water will have to be cooled down before it's fed back into a common return pipe. We can take additional cold water (6°C)and mix this with our hot return (30°C), we wish to get to ~10°C.

I wondered what if anything I should add in to promote mixing of the two streams? Would it worth using a nozzle or other device?

Static mixer, thermostatic mixing valves, there's many ways to handle it depending on fluid and accuracy needed

In 1/2" pipe I would think you will be pretty uniform in temperature after only a couple feet of pipe (20-40 diameters) at any reasonable (fully turbulent) velocity.
