Dear All,

I am reviewing drawings for a project where bedrock for one section of the building is at ground surface level while other parts of the site, the bedrock level varies to a maximum of 40feet below the surface. The structure is a 120 foot span portal frame with an internal column which supports a mezzanine as well. Two of the column foundations have pad footings which sit on rock near to the surface while the other column is on piles driven to bedrock 10m below the surface. Typically, I try to keep the foundations consistent throughout the structure, but I can see the practicality in the design engineers thoughts. It does look strange though but differential settlement shouldn't be an issue. I am reviewing the uplift capacity checks. Are there any other considerations I need to review/comment on?

Thanks
