Does anyone know if it is possible to mirror a single part with in a assembly without SW wanting to create a file for the mirror? I want to use the mirror in a similar fashion to component pattern but my pattern has to be mirrored. It would be easy if I could just mirror the parts I wanted about a plane the same way as you can mirror features at the part level.

Cool thanks for the info, I had tried that before and it wasn't working for me. But I've notice if I just select the components and don't put check marks in the boxes beside them everything works fine. As soon as I check them, I am prompted for new file names.

"... without SW wanting to create a file for the mirror?"

Not if it is a true mirror of the original part. The Insert > Mirror Components function has an option to create a mirrored instance of a part in an assy, but it will not be a true mirror ... just a rotated instance of the same part.

A true mirror of a part will be an associated but separate part from the original, and as such will be automatically saved as a separate file.

CorBlimeyLimey, how do you make the instane of a part in the assy option available? I see it there but I cannot click it on.

The instance is created when the grey box beside the selected part to mirror is left unchecked.

A true mirror (LH/RH part) is created when the grey box is checked.
