Happy New Year everyone!

I think I know the answer but being a slow holiday (yeah, I'm working) I thought I would ask the collective wisdom this forum supplies.

Minimum spacing for the Reliable Model G4 XLO QREC Quick Response, Extended Coverage Concealed Sprinkler

Cut sheet:

Minimum sprinkler spacing is 10.5 ft.

Consider the sketch
I think I can space these sprinklers < 10'-6" apart if there is a soffit as shown. Other than cold showering is there any other reason for the minimum spacing requirement?

This is a really large job for me and I don't need to be making silly mistakes.

Thanks.

It appears you are good to go. Your ceiling construction satisfies 13-2010 8.8.3.4.2.

Neither NFPA 13 or the datasheet specify a minimum square footage for EC heads (like ESFR), so my interpretation is that the concern lies with cold-soldering, and not overwhelming the system due to excessive heads being opened.

8.8.3.4.2 Sprinklers shall be permitted to be placed less than 8 ft (2.4 m) on center where the following conditions are satisfied:

snip

(3) Baffles shall be not less than 8 in. (203 mm) wide and 6 in. (152 mm) high.

I am going to play safe.... I think what I will do is place them 10'-6" apart.

Most want to max out the spacing???

"Most want to max out the spacing???"

For most of it I'm hitting 18'x18' but a messier than usual ceiling layout, with multiple pockets and light fixtures centered in those pockets, that keep away head placement.
