For a single angle connection between a two beams (see the left side of the linked picture below) I’d like to keep the distance between the center of the bolt hole to the fillet of the angle to a minimum to keep eccentricity as low as possible. Table J3.4 of AISC 325 specifies minimum edge distances, should this distance be taken from the bolt hole center to the inner face of the opposite leg of the angle or should it be taken to the back of the opposite leg where it connects to the beam web? Also, if I use the minimum distance on both angles legs, can I assume that these minimum dimensions take into account the space need to get a socket around this bolts?
