Min Allowable Headroom between catwalk floor and monorail beam hoist

I need to maintain the minimum distance between hoist of underhung monorail beam and the floor (catwalk).
What is the number? where is being refrenced? any visual pics or presentations?

Are you worried about the monorail to catwalk headroom or the actual hoist on the monorail? If it's the hoist then I've never heard of this being a headroom issue. If you're really worried then give it 6'-8" clearance to the bottom of the hoist per OSHA (assuming you're in the US).

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, I am in U.S.
I have heard this number that you stated, 6' -8" may I ask do you know excatly where it comes from? I believe somewhere in OSHA but I have to reference the excat source and location of this number to my client and I don't where is in the OHSA?

Does anybody have that particular page and statement that can attach it.
I apprecaite your kind help.

Sorry forgot to answer your question. I am conceren about the distance between the hoist (or may be the hook under hoist) and catwalk floor(top of the grating)

Or if there is another distance (in terms of OSHA's requirement on proper headroom for workers) please let me know.
It is something that also I need to check with hoist manuafturer or it is only OHSA requirement?

well 6'-8" is a standard door clearance. Makes sense that would be the bare minimum for clearance of a walkway.

OSHA 1910.37 (i)

"Headroom: Means of egress shall be so designed and maintained as to provide adequate headroom, but in no case shall the ceiling height be less than 7 feet 6 inches nor any projection from the ceiling be less than 6 feet 8 inches from the floor."

This is under the "Means of Egress". If it's not a means of egress you may get away with less headroom. There are other requirements in building codes and potentially local codes so you'll want to take a look at the codes prescribed by your jurisdiction, but typically if you can provide 6'-8" or more then you're good.

I have been using 7'-0" head clearance the last couple of years, at least on access....may have come from the IBC code...if it is an industrial plant, maintenance platform, one may get away with less......
