Where does Military Spec hardware stand in respect to ROHS compliance?

It doesn't ncessarily. You need to ask the supplier the specific question.

uGlay,

Is there any reason to assume there is any relationship? MIL and MS standards were developed long before RoHS.

Some of it probably is compliant.

We created a fixture(aerospace) and used tons of MS hardware. Now the question has been brought up whether our enclosure is ROHS compliant. We can verify every part is in compliance except the MS hardware. We are now at a point where we need to check if our MS HW is in compliance.

Yes, we are working backwards, but if we had the ROHS requirement from the beginning we would have probably addressed this during definition stages, not now when we are readying to ship the product.

uGlay,

You are going to have to verify your stuff item by item. For example, I am pretty sure cadmium plated bolts and screws are not RoHS compliant.

Ahh, the joy of ROHS. There are 'consultant' companies that have data bases of ROHS compliant components and can compare youre Bill of Materials to that database.

Sorry I don't think I have an actual name but a google might do it.

I would think most MS components would be in their database so it could be a quick solution.

I definitely agree that you'd almost certainly have to look at ROHS compliance mil spec by mil spec.

KENAT,

If your hardware isn't cadmium plated then it is probably zinc with a chromate treatment.

No good either way.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts guys.

Has anyone here used a company such as the one KENAT specified? I would prefer to contact someone by recommendation rather than eyeballing one off the google results.

Looked through a bunch of old emails & I believe Ageus is one company we used.

I thought I had more information but can't find it, sorry.

Also remember, there isn't one universal set of ROHS & WHEE standards, China is slightly different from EU etc as I recall.

KENAT,
